A contract provides agreed pricing terms. A dynamic offer reflects a current shipment opportunity. A spot quote prices a specific move. A 3PL may offer its own carrier arrangement; these categories can overlap.
Identify the agreement behind the result
An account-specific rate and a guest estimate should not be treated as interchangeable evidence about your contract. Estes explicitly distinguishes logged-in account pricing from guest results. Ask each quoting source which agreement and service the price represents, and retain the quote identifier. If the same carrier appears twice, record why the commercial source differs rather than assuming one result is an error.
Treat opportunity pricing as conditional
A spot or dynamic offer is not a promise that the same price will apply to the next shipment. XPO’s public rating documentation, for example, describes conditions for requesting spot quotes and volume pricing. Confirm availability, pickup timing and quote validity for the actual move. A historical lane average can provide context, but it does not become an executable price merely by appearing next to an offer.
Ask for a comparable decision view
Compare linehaul, fuel, disclosed extra services, required transit and quote conditions. Then identify who arranges the shipment and who performs the transportation. If an alternative source is cheaper, ask whether the service and freight assumptions still match. If your contract wins, preserve it as the selected result; access to more choices does not mean replacing a good existing relationship.
Use a demonstration to test the claim
MGN describes MyMGN Marketplace as bringing customer rates, carrier dynamic offers, spot pricing and national 3PL options together. Bring representative shipments to a demonstration and ask which sources are enabled for your account. Evaluate the actual workflow and source labels rather than treating a generic feature checklist as proof of coverage.
A comparison should keep the source label.
“Carrier A” describes who moves the freight. It does not explain whose agreement produced the price. Keep separate fields for the carrier, commercial provider, pricing source, service and quote reference. This makes a difference when the same carrier is available through two arrangements.
